I was only 22 when I started out, so I<br \/>had another 40 or 50 years to recoup if things hadn\u2019t worked out. But my parents were so close<br \/>to retirement age that it wasn\u2019t even a case of sink or swim. It was just: swim, you have to. It<br \/>scared the crap out of me doing it.<br \/>About a year ago, my dad pulled me aside, and said, \u201cI\u2019ve just checked the bank balance. I just<br \/>want to say thanks ever so much for everything you\u2019ve done. There\u2019s absolutely no way I\u2019d be in<br \/>this position if it wasn\u2019t for you.\u201d That has got to be the proudest moment of my life.<br \/>It was a great way to pay my parents back for everything they had done for me over the years.<br \/>I don\u2019t think anything else in my property career could ever come anywhere close to that. My<br \/>dad tapping me on shoulder, looking me in the eye, and saying, \u201cThanks so much. I don\u2019t need to<br \/>worry about money now.\u201d<br \/><br \/>What advice would you give for anyone else that wants to follow in your footsteps?<br \/>You\u2019ve got to have a plan and you\u2019ve got to take action. It\u2019s one thing having a plan but then not<br \/>taking action. You\u2019re not going to be any further forward.<br \/>Look at people you aspire to be like: people that are inspirational and motivational, people that<br \/>have done what you want to achieve. Then emulate them, copy them. You\u2019re not going to get<br \/><br \/>100% exactly what they got, but you will get pretty close if you follow what they\u2019ve done. There<br \/>will be ups and downs, and there will be things you won\u2019t see coming when you\u2019re looking<br \/>through your rose-tinted glasses. You will have good days, and you will have bad days.<br \/>I\u2019m very fortunate now to be able to live the life that I do, and I wouldn\u2019t change it for the world.<br \/>It hasn\u2019t always been like this, and you\u2019re going to have struggles. As happy as I am on a daily<br \/>basis, you can\u2019t be in a constant state of positivity and happiness because that\u2019s not reality. Bad<br \/>things happen, bad days happen. Accept it, deal with it. Look for the silver lining; look for the<br \/>positive messages it can bring.<br \/>To take action, you\u2019ve got to know what you want to do. Find somebody who can help you along<br \/>the way, whether it be watching a YouTube video, or going to a seminar or a mentor. You need<br \/>to find somebody that\u2019s done it before, because otherwise, you won\u2019t have a clue what to do, and<br \/>you\u2019ll be running around in circles.","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The thing I\u2019m most proud of was what I did for my parents.
