Then, all I have to do is pay for the house bills, and<br \/>it\u2019s actually cheaper than living in student digs.\u201d<br \/>The second lightbulb moment was after the lodgers had moved in and everything was going<br \/>swimmingly. I thought, \u201cLet\u2019s roll it out: let\u2019s do what I\u2019ve just done, on a slightly bigger scale.\u201d<br \/><br \/><br \/>People can make some things look really complicated and difficult, but at the end of the day, I<br \/>was just a standard guy that saw that there was an opportunity to earn some more money by<br \/>renting out some rooms. I then decided to magnify that.<br \/>You would have thought I\u2019d have twigged this sooner, but it wasn\u2019t really until I tried to help my<br \/>parents that I thought, \u201cHang on, if I put more rooms in, I can get a lot more money.\u201d That was a<br \/>delayed lightbulb moment.<br \/>We like our houses to be a sort of a home away from home. We have similar age people, similar<br \/>professions, a similar demographic in the property, and we also have a very rigorous vetting<br \/>process for tenants Somebody might look really good on paper but if they\u2019ve got an attitude or<br \/>we get a bad vibe, we won\u2019t rent to them. Because we believe that if you have issues before they<br \/>even become a tenant \u2013 if they\u2019re rude, arrogant or back-chatting \u2013 then what the hell are they<br \/>going to be like as housemates? Or how are they going to react if we have to tell them to stop<br \/>smoking in the house because it\u2019s against the rules?<br \/>Another lightbulb moment was to make sure you get some help from whoever has the correct<br \/>skills. There\u2019s no way you\u2019re going to build a multi-million-pound business as a one-man band.<br \/>Anybody that offers help, accept it, welcome it, embrace it.
